Max Jaeger carved open Hell to save his daughter.
The thing that answered didn’t offer power. It gave him something worse.
Not a contract. A transformation. Now, Max walks the Earth as a glitch in the infernal system – a man made of Hellfire, who awakens souls without binding them.
And that makes him dangerous.
Demons hunt him to harvest what shouldn’t exist. Rogue Contractors call for his death. And a prophet – mouth stitched shut, eyes burned out – has named him the end of days.
They might be right.
Because something older than Hell is waking. And it remembers Max. It wants Max. And it is not alone.

Demon Contracts vs. Max’s Power – A Fundamental Difference
Demon Contracts
Demon Contracts have existed for millennia, whispered about in myths and legends—humans who traded their souls for impossible power. But the reality is far worse than the stories tell.
What is a Demon Contract?
A contract between a human and a demon, granting power in exchange for the human’s soul.
  • The Demon Unlocks the Human’s Power – Every human has a dormant soul, but demons act as the key, shaping their contractor’s abilities according to their will.
  • The Price is Control – Once a contract is formed, the demon gains partial control over its contractor. The stronger the contract, the more influence the demon has.
  • Soul Ownership – At the contract’s end, the human’s soul is forfeit. Most contractors are merely fuel, their souls eventually devoured to empower their demon master.
  • Demons Stay Through Hosts – Demon Lords exist in our world by fusing with Contractors, devouring them entirely and taking over their body.
  • Higher-Order Contracts Exist – The strongest Contractors can form pacts with Demon Lords, gaining abilities powerful enough to reshape reality—at the cost of their humanity.
Max’s Power
When Max Jaeger performs a summoning ritual, he expects a bargain. Instead, something goes wrong. The result? A power never seen before.
What is Max’s Power?
A contractless ability that awakens a person’s hidden potential—without demonic control.
  • Max Doesn’t Need a Demon – His power acts like a contract but is completely independent of demonic influence.
  • He Awakens Others – Instead of demons unlocking a soul’s potential, Max does it himself, granting abilities without strings attached.
  • Unrestricted Growth – Contractors are limited by their demon’s control. But those empowered by Max can evolve freely, shaping their power in unpredictable ways.
  • He Breaks the System – Max’s existence defies supernatural law. No human should be able to awaken power without a contract. No one should have the ability to create Contractors freely. It is something beyond both humans and demons.
The Inevitable Conflict
  • Demons Fear It – Max renders them obsolete. If humans can gain power without contracts, then demons lose their only leverage.
  • Exorcists and Anti-Demon Factions Are Divided – Some see Max as the key to eradicating demons forever. Others fear he is an even bigger threat.
  • Governments Want to Control Him – If one man can awaken an army, nations will kill or capture him before he upsets the balance of power.
  • Max Can Absorb, Too – His second ability, the Soul Prison, means he doesn’t just grant power—he takes it. With every fight, every kill, he becomes something new.
Max is not a Contractor.
He is not a demon.
He is something else entirely.
And if he continues on this path… will he save the world?
Or become the greatest monster of them all?
Demon Contracts Explained
The Ritual
A contractor performs a ceremony in a darkened place, reciting phrases to call demons. The room must not be touched by sunlight for at least 24 hours.
The Requirements
Demons require human desperation, fresh blood to be spilled, and a dead body to materialize through into the human world.
The Contract
A written document detailing specific requests for power, ability, or wealth that must be burned for the demon to understand.
The Price
Demons hunger to devour empowered human souls, growing significantly more powerful with each soul they consume.
The Three Affinities
Max's powers unlock the fantastic power of the human soul - but the abilities that are awakened will vary due to the person's personality and Affinity. Every person is inclined to one of three Affinities. The Three Affinities are Body, Mind and Soul. Having an Affinity means that you can more easily use a particular set of powers and abilities, or that if you’re gifted with those powers, they will be stronger than if given to someone who does not have this, Affinity.
Body Affinity
Harnesses physical abilities: strength, speed, regeneration, and enhanced senses. Often seen with a white/grey/silver soul aura.
Mind Affinity
Taps into mental and psychic powers: telepathy, telekinesis, and mind control. Frequently associated with a red/pink/orange soul aura.
Soul Affinity
Unlocks soul power for defense or affecting others: soul prison, exorcism, and healing. Manifests with a yellow/gold soul aura.
